Someone rightly said that motivation helps for a short time but a routine goes a long way. This makes perfect sense when it comes to skincare. No amount of watching your favorite YouTuber perform her daily routines will get you great skin unless you’re ready to put in that effort. I realized this only recently. Skincare is something I wanted to focus on since a long time but kept procrastinating. I took baby steps to build a habit out of it. Finally, I decided to stick to it.
The first thing I do the morning is splash my face with cool water (not Davidoff, of course). This wakes me up as well as my skin. I don’t use a face wash because my skin is dry and I don’t want to get rid of the skin’s natural oils first thing in the morning. I use face wash in the shower. I love the Himalaya Neem face wash.
I scrub my face on every alternate day. I love Nivea Total Face Cleanup and Promise Organic Coconut Milk Daily Facial Scrub.
Next, I spritz my face with rose water. It acts as a natural toner. I’m currently using the Kama Ayurveda Rose Water.
Then I moisturize my face and body. I am currently using the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer for my face and Nivea for my body.
Fifteen minutes before I head out, I use a sunscreen with SPF 50. Currently I’m using the Lakme . I generally don’t wear a foundation to work. I like to keep my makeup very minimal.
When I return home from work I wash my face with face wash and apply a light weight moisturizer before heading towards the gym. I love the Jeju Aloe gel from The Face Shop.
I like to take a shower after gym. I like to keep my face bare until bedtime. This break is very beneficial for the skin as it helps my skin to breathe. I apply a body oil lightly post shower. I have been using the Keokarpin Body Oil forever.
At night, I wash my face and use a serum or an oil. I love Lancôme’s Visionnaire Cresendo Progressive Night Peel and Vichy’s Liftactive Retinol Treatment. Both of these products have given me wonderful results. Josie Maran Argan Oil is my favorite face oil.
Sometimes I just like to use a heavy night cream like Estee Lauder Resilience Night Lift and an hyaluronic acid based night cream like the one from Mario Badescu.
On the weekends, I use a face pack. I love to use sheet masks and homemade face packs.
It just takes a few minutes of to do all the steps but one needs to be consistent. I sometimes don’t feel like washing my face and applying serum at night. It’s okay once in a while and only if I don’t make a habit of going to bed with all that gunk in my pores.
